This lesson examines some common apostrophe problems and how your word processor can help you with them.

Your word processor's grammar checker can be configured (see Checkers below) to evaluate your document for correct use of the apostrophe. The checker will underscore any suspected problem with a green squiggly line. If you right click on the green line, you will usually see suggested changes.

Remember that your grammar checker is simply a tool that can offer suggestions. It necessary for careful writers to rely on their own proofreading skills and knowledge as well as their grammar checker.
