name for sentence fragment is--unattached sentence part.
Your goal in revising a fragment is to attach it to the sentence
it was
intended for or add the words required to make it a complete sentence.
When
using a modern word processor, you will notice that the grammar checker
flags most sentence fragments in your writing when it is told to
do
so. If you right click the squiggly line placed under the suspect group
of words, you will usually be told that there is a fragment that
should be
revised.
Common
types of fragments include:
-ing
phrases
"to”
fragments
connector
fragments
Regardless
of type, all fragments consist of a group of words punctuated
as if it were a complete sentence. These "unattached sentence
parts"
should be connected to a host sentence or words added to the group to
make it a complete sentence.
